As part of allwhere's intake process, every device undergoes comprehensive functionality testing to validate hardware health, confirm specifications, and determine readiness for deployment. This process complements physical grading by pairing hands-on inspections with automated diagnostics powered by BitRaser, establishing a clear, documented view of device health before assets move forward in their lifecycle.
What does allwhere's advanced diagnostics test for?
Each device is manually inspected and tested to identify functional defects that may impact usability. Our findings are recorded separately from cosmetic grading to provide a complete picture of device condition.
Physical Functionality Check
| Keyboard | All keys register correctly; modifier keys (Shift, Ctrl, Alt/Option, Command/Windows) and function keys (brightness, volume, media controls) respond as expected. No stuck, missing, or non-responsive keys. |
| Trackpad | Cursor movement accuracy across the entire surface, left/right click functionality, and multi-touch gestures (scroll, zoom, swipe). No dead zones or physical damage. |
| Audio | Speakers produce clear output with no crackling, distortion, or channel imbalance. Microphone input is detected without static. Headphone jack functions correctly (if present). |
| Wireless | Wi-Fi network detection, connection, and stable signal strength. Bluetooth device discovery, pairing, and stable connection. |
| Display | Powers on with full backlight at all brightness levels. No flickering, discoloration, dead pixels, or image distortion. External display output tested where applicable (HDMI/USB-C/DisplayPort). |
| Power System | Device powers on and off correctly. Battery is present, recognized, and holds charge. Charging functionality and power adapter connection are confirmed. |
| Ports & Interfaces | USB-A and USB-C ports support data transfer. Thunderbolt, HDMI/DisplayPort, and SD card reader tested where applicable. |
Automated Hardware Diagnostics (BitRaser)
| Memory (RAM) | Read/write integrity testing, error detection and validation, and capacity verification. |
| Storage Health | Read/write performance testing, SMART status checks, bad sector detection, and drive health indicators where supported. |
| CPU & GPU | Functional validation, performance and stress testing, thermal stability checks, and error or instability detection. |
| System Board | Motherboard functionality verification, system controller validation, and internal component communication checks. |
| Connectivity & Interfaces | USB port functionality, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hardware verification, internal adapter detection, and external interface response validation. |
Why device functionality testing matters
By combining manual physical checks with automated diagnostics, we reduce risk and improve reliability across your entire device fleet. This dual-layer approach ensures that every device deployed through allwhere meets our quality standards and is ready to support your team from day one.
Our testing process provides peace of mind that devices have been thoroughly vetted before reaching your employees, minimizing the likelihood of hardware-related disruptions and support tickets down the line.
While BitRaser provides comprehensive automated diagnostics, no intake testing process can identify every potential issue. Certain conditions — such as intermittent behavior, firmware-specific issues, or performance degradation under sustained use — may not surface during intake.
Device Functionality Testing represents a best-practice combination of physical inspection and automated diagnostics, but it does not replace ongoing monitoring once a device is in active use.
